Mountain Iron Planning and Zoning Commission

Chairman Steve Skogman called the Planning & Zoning meeting to order at 6:30p.m. with the following members present: Steve Skogman, Jim Techar, Margaret Soyring, and Jerry Kujala, Zoning Administrator. Absent members: Barb Fivecoate.
It was moved by Skogman and seconded by Techar to approve the minutes of the November 23, 2020 meeting as presented. The motion carried with Fivecoate absent.
It was moved by Techar and seconded by Soyring to adjourn the regular meeting an open the Public Hearing. The motion carried with Fivecoate absent.
The purpose of the public hearing is to rezone certain Lots within the City of Mountain Iron:
Rezone the following from Industrial Zoning to Enterprise Commercial.
Lots 0008 – 0011, Block 003, Mountain Iron Expressway
Tracks A-H, Registered Land Survey 22

Northland Lawn, Sport & Tractor representative, Jim Skubic was present at the meeting, as the property is locating within the lots to be rezoned.
There was no opposition to the rezoning of the lots.
It was moved by Techar and seconded by Soyring to close the public hearing and re-open the regular meeting. The motion carried with Fivecoate absent.
It was moved by Soyring and seconded by Techar to recommend the City Council approve the rezoning from Industrial Zone to Commercial Enterprise. The motion carried with Fivecoate absent.
It was moved by Soyring and seconded by Techar to close regular meeting and open the public hearing regarding Conditional Use Permit for Daniel Siebert. The motion carried with Fivecoate absent.
The purpose of the public hearing is to consider a request made by Daniel Siebert, for a Conditional Use Permit for the use of shipping containers as accessory structures. The property is legally described as follows:

It was moved by Skogman and seconded by Soyring to recommend the City Council approve the Conditional Use Permit for Siebert and that it be painted earth-tone color. The motion carried with Fivecoate absent.
Zoning Administrator, Jerry Kujala requested an update from the City Attorney on the illegal structure in Ann’s Acres but did not receive any information at the time of the meeting. He will keep the members informed if he gets any information.
Kujala discussed a computer software program that was available for building permits which would enable on-line applications as well as allow access by the Administration and members of the Planning and Zoning Board members. There is a yearly fee for the program.
It was moved by Soyring and seconded by Techar that a recommendation be made to the City Council to purchase this program. The motion carried with Fivecoate absent.
Interim Fire Chief Mark Madden discussed the Fire Code and Ordinances within the City of Mountain Iron. The City does not have a Fire Marshal to enforce these codes. The Planning & Zoning board recommended that Madden present this to the City Council to explore obtaining Fire Marshal services.
At 7:15p.m., it was moved by Techar and seconded by Soyring to adjourn the meeting. The motion carried with Fivecoate absent.
