PUBLIC SAFETY & HEALTH BOARD MINUTES

JANUARY 31, 2018

The meeting was called to order by Vice-Chairman Steve Skogman. Members present were Margaret Soyring and Margaret Ratai. Also present was Fire Chief Jerry Knapper and Sgt. John Bachman

Skogman moved and Soyring supported to approve the minutes of the November 29, 2017 meeting. Motion carried unanimously.

First responders reported there were 19 calls and 6 were answered by Mt. Iron first responders. The need for new AED’s was discussed again with the board asking for the number of units needing to be replaced. The figures should be available for the next meeting.

Fire Chief Knapper discussed fire extinguishers and smoke detectors in apartment buildings and businesses. It was also discussed that more parts have been ordered for fire truck #188 and the ongoing problems with this unit.

A motion was made by Soyring and supported by Ratai to recommend to the City Council to have a meeting with the fire department to discuss budget and the timeline to replace truck #188. Motion carried unanimously.

Moved by Ratai and supported by Soyring to table the review of the Hydrant Ordinance be tabled until the next meeting. Motion carried unanimously.

The next meeting will be February 28, 2018.

Motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:40 p.m. by Ratai, seconded by Soyring. Motion carried.
