Mountain Iron Planning and Zoning Commission

September 11, 2017

 

Meeting was called to order at 6 p.m. by Chairman Steve Skogman.

 

Those Present: Ray Saari, Jim Techar, Steve Skogman, Barb Fivecoate, Margaret Soyring, and Jerry Kujala, planning and zoning administrator. Absent members: Tim Johnston.

 

Motion by Skogman and supported by Fivecoate to approve the minutes of the August 14, 2017 meeting as presented. Motion carried with Johnston absent.

 

Copies of the Chapter 154 Zoning Ordinance were handed out to the commission members but not Chapter 150-153. Skogman said he will contact the City Administrator about getting them.

 

At 6:05 it was moved by Fivecoate and supported by Saari to recess the regular meeting and open the public hearing. Motion carried with Johnston Absent.

 

The purpose of the public hearing is to consider a request made by Suzanne and Hugo Mariucci, for a Variance Permit to construct a new 12 x 20 utility shed with a reduction in the required setback from 25 ft. to 16 ft. on Unity Drive. The property is legally described as follows:

 

Lot 0001, Block 001, Unity Addition of Mountain Iron

Address: 5499 Diamond Lane, Mountain Iron, MN 55768

Parcel Code: 175-0063-00010

 

Hugo Mariucci was in attendance. Kujala reported that there were two letters of support.

 

Motion was made by Soyring and supported by Fivecoate to adjourn the public hearing and resume the regular meeting. Motion carried with Johnston absent.

 

Motion by Techar and supported by Fivecoate to recess the regular meeting and open the public hearing.

Motion carried with Johnston absent.

 

The purpose of the public hearing is to consider a request made by Gerald and Patricia Claesson for a Conditional Use Permit to construct a new garage larger than 900 sq. ft. as permitted by the City of Mountain Iron Zoning Ordinance. The property is legally described as follows:

 

Section 10, Township 58, Range 18, Unity Addition of Mountain Iron

Address: 8749 Unity Drive, Mountain Iron, MN 55768

Parcel Code: 175-0070-01327

 

No one was present for the hearing.

 

Motion by Fivecoate and supported by Techar to close the public hearing and resume the regular meeting.

Motion carried with Johnston absent.

 

Motion by Saari and supported by Techar to recommend to the City Council to approve the Variance for Hugo and Suzanne Mariucci at their next regular meeting. Motion carried with Johnston absent.

 

Motion made by Fivecoate and supported by Techar to recommend to the City Council to approve the Conditional Use Permit for Gerald and Patricia Claesson at their next regular meeting. Motion carried with Johnston absent.

 

Ed Roskoski was in the audience and brought to the attention of the commission that Walgreens has three storage units on the corner of their property. Kujala will check it out and talk to the manager about them.

 

Kujala reported that he would also be checking on illegal signs of Altobelli and Peterson Construction and the fabric structure on Highway 7 that were supposed to be removed.

 

Motion to adjourn at 6:40 by Fivecoate and supported by Saari. Motion carried with Johnston absent.
