MOUNTAIN IRON CITY COUNCIL
SPECIAL MEETING
MAY 16, 2007
Mayor Skalko called the meeting to order at 6:37 p.m. with the following members present: Joe Prebeg, Jr., Tony Zupancich, Alan Stanaway, Ed Roskoski, and Mayor Gary Skalko. Also present were: Jill M. Forseen, Municipal Services Secretary; and Louis Russo, City Council Consultant.
At 6:38 p.m., it was moved by Zupancich and supported by Stanaway to recess the regular meeting and open the closed session to discuss personnel issues. The motion carried.
The following were present for the closed session: Joe Prebeg, Jr., Tony Zupancich, Alan Stanaway, Ed Roskoski, and Mayor Gary Skalko. Also present was: Louis Russo, City Council Consultant.
At 7:15 p.m., the Council adjourned the closed session and reconvened the regular meeting.
It was moved by Prebeg and supported by Zupancich to accept the severance/separation agreement with Larry Nanti, as submitted. The motion carried unanimously.
The Council discussed the Performance Review and the Personal Assessment forms to be used for Management Staff. The Mayor said that he submitted a copy of the Personal Assessment forms to the City Administrator and the Director of Public Works for them to complete. Mr. Russo stated that the Personnel Committee informed the salaried employees that there would be an evaluation made, both a self and Council review of their performance, prior to June 1st or as close to that day as possible because that is the next review date for the City Administrator and the Director of Public Works. Mr. Russo said that the Librarian’s review date is in August. The Council should consider adopting the Performance Review and the Personal Assessment forms at the next regular Council meeting. Mr. Russo suggested that all of the City Council members fill out the forms privately and then come together at a Committee-of-the-Whole meeting and have a facilitator calculate the average evaluation of the Council forms for each employee. It was the consensus of the Council to have Mr. Russo work as the Facilitator for the Council for the first walk through on the performance reviews. It was the consensus of the Council to have the City Administrator and the Director of Public Works submit their self- evaluations, in a sealed envelope, to the Municipal Services Secretary by 4:00 p.m. on May 23, 2007.
It was moved by Zupancich and supported by Roskoski to set a Closed Committee-of-the-Whole meeting for Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss personnel issues.
At 7:45 p.m., it was moved by Zupancich and supported by Stanaway that the meeting be adjourned. The motion carried unanimously.
