Meeting Minutes for April 23, 2002

MOUNTAIN IRON CITY COUNCIL

LOCAL BOARD OF APPEAL AND EQUALIZATION

APRIL 23, 2002

Mayor Brunfelt called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with the following members present: Stephen Skogman, Joe Matanich, Ed Roskoski and Mayor Mitchell Brunfelt. Absent member included: Joe Prebeg, Jr. Also present were: Jill M. Forseen, Municipal Services Secretary; Rick Vidmar, Residential Real Estate Appraiser for Saint Louis County; Cindy Okstad, Commercial Real Estate Appraiser for Saint Louis County; and Mel Hintz, Appraiser for Saint Louis County.

The Mayor outlined the format that would be followed for the meeting. He also stated that the meeting would be recessed tonight and reconvened on Monday, May 6, 2002.

At 6:31 p.m., Councilor Joe Prebeg, Jr. entered the meeting.

The following people spoke before the board:

Calvin Johnson, 4955 Butler Road, Mountain Iron, Parcel Code 175-0071-03960, said that his house was not worth $73,200. He said that the house is 80 years old and he hasn�t made any improvements for the last 25 years. He said that he has 40 acres of land. It was moved by Roskoski and supported by Skogman to direct the County Assessor to re-evaluate parcel 175-0071-03960 and bring a recommendation to the Board. The motion carried.

Joan Molesky, 5440 Mineral Avenue, Mountain Iron, Parcel Code 175-0055-02250, said that her home was not worth the $85,000 that it was valued at. The Board took no formal action on her request.

Reynold Pettinelli, property located on the east side of Highway 53, with the following parcels and valuations:

He said that the valuations were too high.

It was moved by Brunfelt and supported by Roskoski to change the parcels as follow to reflect $40 per linear foot for the residential lots:

The motion carried.

The following appealed in writing:

Larry P. Johnson, Tamarack Drive, Mountain Iron, Parcel Codes 175-0012-00860 & 00850 & 00840, stating that the property was valued to high. The Board requested the County Appraiser to review the property and make a recommendation to the Board when the meeting reconvenes on May 6, 2002.

At 7:32 p.m., the Board recessed.

At 8:06 p.m., Councilor Joe Matanich left the meeting.

At 8:24 p.m., the Board reconvened the meeting.

It was moved by Skogman and supported by Prebeg to set all future Local Board of Appeal and Equalization meetings for one hour. The motion carried.

At 8:30 p.m., it was moved by Roskoski and supported by Skogman to recess the meeting until 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 6, 2002. The motion carried.
