Mountain Iron Public Library December 12, 2018 Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 4:04 pm by Carolyn Olsen. Members present: Peggy Anderson, Carolyn Olsen, Kathy Witzman, city liaison Al Stanaway, Library Director Anna Amundson. Not present: Shirley Congdon and Shannon Petersen. Shirley is recognized for her years on the Library Board. She will be ending her term 12/31/2018. Motion by Witzman, second by Anderson to accept the November meeting minutes. Motion passed with a clarification regarding the fact that the library will be hiring 2 additional staff: a library assistant and an on-call substitute.
No communication. No Public Forum.
Director’s report: The Family Reading Time programs and upcoming Winter Reading Program were discussed, and November events were reviewed.
Holiday hours were discussed as well as the trainings Anna will be attending. CW Tech will be coming to train library staff on the lock station; this is a follow-up to the lock down situation from this fall. Library staff will now be able lock down the library in emergency situations. The phone situation was discussed – city hall has been notified that they cannot be repaired without additional tech support on site at the library (additional phone lines?). The slip down the stairwell to the basement by a frequent library patron was also mentioned with potential engineered solutions such as safety strips on each step discussed. Anna will follow up with city maintenance staff.
Old Business: The electronic sign is still in discussion between Mesabi Sign and the city. Anna will have more information when it is available.
New business: Make it/ take it crafting classes (special events) were discussed. Carolyn suggested Smith’s Infusion as a possible contact for class ideas. These could be library fundraisers as well.
Next meeting will be January 9th, 2019 at 4:00 pm. Motion by Witzman, second by Olsen to adjourn at 4:35. Motion passed.
