Library Board Minutes 021418

The February 14 Mt. Iron Library Board meeting was called to order at 4 p.m. by President Olsen. Members present: Carolyn Olsen, Shannon Petersen, Shirley Congdon, Peggy Anderson and Director Sally Yuccas. Absent: Kathy Witzman and Liason Alan Stanaway.

Motion by Congdon, second by Anderson to approve the October 11, 2017 minutes. Motion passed.

Director’s Report. Yuccas spoke about the new printer and the cost per month is minimal.   It offers color, but that option will be for staff needs only at this time.

The Winter Reading program goes until March 31. The library offers an Adult , Youth and Teen program.  Special thanks to the Friends of the Library for funding the prizes for these various programs.   The library recently had the Mad Science program and over 80 Merritt Elementary kids attended. Because of the large group, the program was held at the Senior Center.  The Blind Date with the book program took place the week of Valentine’s and the library had Coffee ‘n each day during Valentine’s week. Yuccas attended a recent workshop to prepare for the upcoming summer reading program.

This year’s theme is “Reading takes you Everywhere.”

Yuccas reported that she will be preparing the annual State Report for the library and once completed, the city will receive a check from Arrowhead Library System for over $1300 when the report is submitted.

Open Discussion. Yuccas brought up that she will be retiring the first week of November. We had a discussion and board members would like to be involved in the hiring process and want to have a new person hired and trained before Yuccas leaves. In the past, we have had two Library Board members on the interview committee.

Motion by Petersen, second by Congdon to adjourn at 4:45 p.m. Motion passed.
