Library Board Meeting

January 16th, 2019 4:00 PM

The January meeting was called to order at 4:00 by Carolyn Olsen.  Members present: Carolyn Olsen, Kathy Witzman, Peggy Anderson, Shannon Petersen and Anna Amundson. Absent: City liaison, Al Stanaway.

Motion was made by Kathy Witzman and seconded by Peggy Anderson to approve the December 12th meeting minutes.  Read a thank you from Sally Yuccas that had been misplaced.  No other communication.

Director’s Report: Attendance and circulation was very steady in December and there were many activities at the library.  A quote was received from Mesabi Sign for the removal and subsequent installation of the electronic sign – $2160.00.  It would still need electrical hook-up and possible trouble-shooting.  It was agreed Anna would pursue other bids and see what we could come up with as new signs (digital) are very pricey.

The Winter Reading Program was kicked off and is doing well with 61 kids and 24 adults. Anna hopes patrons can read 20,000 minutes for the month of January. She will be going to trainings on 6 Wednesdays this spring, which works well as the new library aide is able to fill that time. Anne Grierson will be starting on January 18th.  We will not be getting a library aide for call in. We will keep discussing this item. Terry Niska is checking on safety strips for the stairs. We discussed the issue of no water in the building and what to do the next time that happens. Anna will check with Tim Satrang. Calendar parking was also a topic that will need on-going discussion. Anna will check in with Sergeant Bachman regarding this.

We will miss Shirley Congdon on the board and a thank you will be sent to her for her wonderful service.

We finally have resolution on the phones – why they don’t work all the time. Anna will be ordering a new first aid kit and also re-installing the AED. She is a first aid instructor also.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 13th at 4:00 PM.

Motion to adjourn was made by Carolyn Olsen and seconded by EVERYONE. J
