 MINUTES

MOUNTAIN IRON CITY COUNCIL

June 3, 2024

Mayor Anderson called the City Council meeting to order at 6:30p.m. with the following members present: Councilor Ed Roskoski, Al Stanaway, Joe Prebeg Jr., Julie Buria, and Mayor Peggy Anderson. Also, present were: Craig Wainio, City Administrator; Tim Satrang, Director of Public Works; Anna Amundson, Library Director/Special Events Coordinator; Amanda Inmon, Municipal Services Secretary; Al Johnson, City Engineer; Bryan Lindsay, City Attorney; SGT Grant Toma, Sheriff’s Department; and Mark Madden, Mtn Iron Fire Dept. Chief.  

 

It was moved by Buria and seconded by Prebeg the consent agenda be approved as follows:

 

  1. Approve the minutes of the May 20, 2024, regular meeting.

 

  1. That the communications be accepted and placed on file and those requiring further action by the City Council be acted upon during their proper sequence on the agenda.

 

  1. To acknowledge the receipts for the period May 16-31, $179,890.30 (a list is attached and made a part of these minutes).

 

  1. To authorize the payments of the bills and payroll for the period May 16-31, totaling $302,266.85 a list is attached and made a part of these minutes).

 

The motion carried (Yes: Stanaway, Prebeg, Buria and Anderson; No: Roskoski).

 

It was moved by Roskoski to amend the motion, to remove the Christensen/Napa Auto Parts bills in the amount of over $600.00 from the consent agenda for separate consideration. The motion failed due to lack of support.

 

 

Public Forum:

 

  • No one spoke during the forum

 

 

 

The Mayor reported on the following:

 

  • Mountain Iron-Buhl High school kids had a great day picking up trash on the side of the roads, helping clean up other areas and receiving special Water Treatment Plant tour, thank you City employees

 

City Administrator:

 

  • Rec programs are in full swing – very great turnout with several teams for baseball/softball

 

Director of Public Works:

 

  • Friday, June 7th application deadline for large trash – starting date June 10th
  • Lead service line inventory – what materials service lines are made from (mailers being sent out)

 

 

Library Director/Special Events Coordinator:

 

  • July 4th Celebration
  • Thursday, July 4th
  • Parade starts at 9:30am
  • Thank you to the Mountain Iron-Buhl School students for clean-up day
  • Summer reading program
  • Thursday, June 13th at 10:00am – “Comic Stunt Juggler”
  • Going Away party for Jordan Zubich, Wednesday, June 5th from 12:30-2pm

 

City Engineer:

 

  • No formal report

 

It was moved by Prebeg and seconded by Buria to approve the bid from 2EZ Inc., dba Jola and Sopp for the Mineral Avenue Watermain Improvement project, in the amount of $317,833.00. The motion carried unanimously on roll call vote.

 

City Attorney:

 

  • No formal report
  • Clarifications ensued regarding questions that Councilor Roskoski addressed to Attorney

 

It was moved by Roskoski that the City Administrator, supply me, Edmund Roskoski with a complete list of  all 31 applicants, for the two recent City full-time Labor positions. What by law has to be kept confidential from the public, will be kept confidential from the public. The motion failed due to lack of support.

 

Sheriff’s Department:

 

  • No formal report

 

Fire Department:

 

  • Roughly 70% of all calls – mutual aid calls
  • Backordered AEDs finally received – new batch of First Responders

 

It was moved by Roskoski to accept the monthly Fire Department report as presented. The motion failed due to lack of support.

 

It was moved by Prebeg and seconded by Buria to approve the recommendation of the Personnel Committee increase the monthly retainer to $500.00, for responsibility of the residential projects as well as 45% of Commercial building permit fees for the Building Inspector. The motion carried unanimously.

  • Merritt Days Committee meeting
  • Tuesday, June 11th at 5:30pm at the Mountain Iron Public Library

At 7:04p.m., it was moved by Buria and seconded by Roskoski that the meeting be adjourned. The motion carried.
