 MINUTES

MOUNTAIN IRON CITY COUNCIL

June 20, 2023

Mayor Anderson called the City Council meeting to order at 6:30p.m. with the following members present: Councilor Ed Roskoski, Al Stanaway, Julie Buria, and Mayor Peggy Anderson. Also present were: Craig Wainio, City Administrator; Tim Satrang, Director of Public Works; Anna Amundson, Library Director/Special Events Coordinator; Amanda Inmon, Municipal Services Secretary; SGT Toma, Sheriff’s Department; and Bryan Lindsay, City Attorney. Absent members: Councilor Joe Prebeg Jr.

It was moved by Buria and seconded by Stanaway the consent agenda be approved as follows:

  1. Approve the minutes of the June 5, 2023 regular meeting.
  2. That the communications be accepted and placed on file and those requiring further action by the City Council be acted upon during their proper sequence on the agenda.
  3. To acknowledge the receipts for the period June 1-15, $270,792.67 (a list is attached and made a part of these minutes),
  4. To authorize the payments of the bills and payroll for the period June 1-15, totaling $349,857.09 (a list is attached and made a part of these minutes).

 The motion carried (Yes: Stanaway, Anderson, Buria; No: Roskoski) with Councilor Prebeg absent.

It was moved by Roskoski to amend the original motion to remove the Napa Christenson Parts bills in the amount of $321 from the consent agenda for separate consideration. The motion failed due to lack of support.

Public Forum:

  • No one spoke during the public forum

The Mayor reported on the following:

  • City crew has been doing a great job patching pot holes and tree cutting

City Administrator:

  • No formal report

Director of Public Works:

  • Hydrant flushing continuing until the end of June, repairs to those that are needed
  • Electrical work being done at Well Project site
  • Congratulations to City employee, Nate Welch, finished 368 out of 7,488 in the Grandma’s ½ Marathon

It was moved by Stanaway and seconded by Buria to accept the proposed quote from 3D Concrete & Construction for storm sewer repair work at 8368 Spruce Drive, in the amount $6,660. The motion carried on roll call vote (4:0) with Councilor Prebeg absent.

Library Director/Special Events Coordinator:

  • Summer Reading Program
  • Started Monday, June 5th
  • 127 participants signed up
  • 4th of July Parade
  • Parade starts at 9:30am

Sheriff’s Department:

  • No formal report
  • K-9 present for “Kid’s Corner” at 4th of July

City Attorney:

  • No formal report

It was moved by Roskoski and seconded by Buria to approve the recommendation of the Personnel Committee and hire the following individuals as paid on-call Fire Fighters, contingent on physical and background check.

  • Eric Monson

The motion carried with Councilor Prebeg absent.  

It was moved by Buria and seconded by Stanaway to reschedule the Monday, July 3, 2023 meeting due to the 4th of July Holiday to Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at 6:30pm at the Mountain Iron City Hall. The motion carried with Councilor Prebeg absent.

Announcements:

  • Merritt Days Committee meeting, every Monday, at 5:00pm at MIB Commons area (use door #4)

At 6:48p.m., it was moved by Buria and seconded by Stanaway that the meeting be adjourned. The motion carried with Councilor Prebeg absent.
