Information About Becoming a City Councilor
The Council is made up of five members – the Mayor and 4 City Councilors.
Elections are held in November of each even numbered years with primaries in August, if needed.
All positions are at-large, which means the entire community votes for all Council positions.
The term for Mayor is two years.
The term for Councilor is four years with two seats up every election.
In order to run for City Council you must:
- Pay a filing fee of $2.
- File an Affidavit of candidacy with the City between 56 and 70 days prior to the date of the primary.
- Be a qualified voter in the City of Mountain Iron and the State of Minnesota.
- Be 21 by the time you take office.
