 MINUTES

MOUNTAIN IRON CITY COUNCIL

August 15, 2022

Mayor Anderson called the City Council meeting to order at 6:30p.m. with the following members present: Councilor Ed Roskoski, Joe Prebeg Jr., Julie Buria, and Mayor Peggy Anderson. Also present were: Craig Wainio, City Administrator; Tim Satrang, Public Works Director; Anna Amundson, Library Director/Special Events Coordinator, Amanda Inmon, Municipal Services Secretary; Al Johnson, City Engineer; Bryan Lindsay, City Attorney; and SGT Grant Toma, Sheriff’s Department.

It was moved by Prebeg and seconded by Buria that the consent agenda be approved as follows:

  1. Approve the minutes of the August 1, 2022 regular meeting as submitted.
  2. That the communications be accepted and placed on file and those requiring further action by the City Council be acted upon during their proper sequence on the agenda.
  3. To acknowledge the receipts for the period August 1-15, totaling $1,079,106.07 (a list is attached and made a part of these minutes),
  4. To authorize the payments of the bills and payroll for the period August 1-15, totaling $312,894.21 (a list is attached and made a part of these minutes).

The motion carried.

Public Forum:

  • No one spoke during the public forum

The Mayor reported on the following:

  • Thanks to citizens of Mountain Iron, the Sheriff’s Department, City Crew, vendors, Merritt Days Committee members, Fire Department as well as musicians and events for a very successful 2022 Merritt Days

It was moved by Prebeg and seconded by Roskoski to approve the request from Range Association of Municipalities and Schools (RAMS), supporting the letter requesting that Governor Walz and our Legislative Leaders to agree to a legislative special session and pass the remaining unfinished business from the regular legislative session. Councilor Prebeg amended the motion and Roskoski seconded eliminating the one sentence stating, “that our town had a bonding request for money.” The motion carried.

City Administrator:

  • No formal report

It was moved by Prebeg and seconded by Buria to approve the included agreement as presented with the Salvation Army for their Heat Share program for the 2022-2023 winter season. The motion carried.

Director of Public Works:

  • CIPP lining of sewers of old downtown area, hot steam being used during the process
  • City Crews fixing streets where storm sewers were patched/repaired
  • City Crews jetting sewers in the next couple of weeks

Library Director/Special Events Coordinator:

  • Summer reading program ends August 26th
  • Annual Tie-dye day, Wednesday, August 10th, roughly 160 participants

Sheriff’s Department:

  • No formal report

City Engineer:

  • CIPP lining in downtown, during curing process could be minor smells with brief interruptions possibly and some steam

City Attorney:

  • No formal report

It was moved by Prebeg and seconded by Roskoski to approve Resolution #12-22; Calling For A Special MN Legislature Session (a copy is attached and made a part of these minutes). The motion carried.

It was moved by Buria and seconded by Prebeg to authorize BG’s Bar and Grill, to serve and sell alcohol at the Johnson-Krahl Wedding Reception scheduled for September 10, 2022 at the Senior Center. The motion carried.

It was moved by Prebeg and seconded by Buria to reschedule the Monday, September 5, 2022 meeting due to the Labor Day Holiday to Wednesday, September 7th at 6:30pm at the Mountain Iron City Hall. The motion carried.

The MIB Quarterback Club requests contribution for their 2022 Ranger Football Season, for assistance in purchasing safety equipment, other football equipment as well as for defraying traveling expenses. It was moved by Roskoski and seconded by Buria to donate $250.00 to the MIB Quarterback Club for their 2022 Football Season, monies to come out of the Charitable Gambling Fund. The motion carried.

  • Congratulations to the winners of the 2022 Merritt’s Days Car Show
  • Congratulations to the winners of the 2021 Merritt Day’s Treasure Hunt

At 6:59:p.m., it was moved by Buria and seconded by Prebeg that the meeting be adjourned. The motion carried.
