Mountain Iron Planning and Zoning Commission

August 14, 2023

 

 

Chairperson Jim Techar called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with the following members present: Margaret Soyring, Al Stanaway, Lauren Buffetta, Steve Hunter, Mayor Peggy Anderson and Jerry Kujala, Zoning Administrator. Absent members: Barb Fivecoate.

It was moved by Buffetta and seconded by Stanaway to approve the consent agenda and minutes of the July 24, 2023 meeting. The motion carried with Fivecoate absent.

 

It was moved by Hunter and seconded by Buffetta to accept the minutes with one correction: The P&Z Board was not given a copy of the Ordinance amendment. The motion carried with Fivecoate absent.

It was moved by Hunter and seconded by Soyring to close the meeting and open the public hearing. The motion carried with Fivecoate absent.

The purpose of the public hearing is to consider a request made by Anthony Vita for a Conditional Use (CUP) permit. The CUP is for the use of a shipping container to be used as an accessory structure.

It was moved by Soyring and seconded by Hunter to close the public hearing and reopen the regular meeting. The motion carried with Fivecoate absent.

It was moved by Soyring and seconded by Stanaway to recommend the City Council approve the CUP for Anthony Vita. The motion carried with Fivecoate absent.

Zoning Administrator:

  • Reported that the school has provided required survey and site plan
  • Building permit had been issued for the accessory building at the ball field on Unity Drive

It was moved by Hunter and seconded Buffetta to direct Jim Techar, Chairperson, to write a letter to the Mayor and City Council to request they direct the City Attorney to take legal action to resolve Ordinance violations at 9602 Admiral Road, Mt. Iron, MN. The motion carried with Fivecoate absent.

No action was taken on the tabled Ordinance until information is received

At 7:18p.m., it was moved by Buffetta and seconded by Hunter that the meeting be adjourned. The motion carried with Fivecoate absent.
