 MINUTES

MOUNTAIN IRON CITY COUNCIL

June 15, 2026

Mayor Anderson called the City Council meeting to order at 6:30p.m. with the following members present: Councilor Ed Roskoski, Bradley Gustafson, Alan Stanaway, and Mayor Peggy Anderson. Also, present were: Craig Wainio, City Administrator; Tim Satrang, Director of Public Works; Amanda Inmon, Municipal Services Secretary; Anna Amundson, Library Director/Special Events Coordinator; Al  Johnson, City Engineer; and Sgt. Toma, Sheriff’s Department; Absent members: Councilor Julie Buria

It was moved by Gustafson and seconded by Stanaway the consent agenda be approved as follows:

1. Approve the minutes of June 1, 2026, regular meeting.
2. That the communications be accepted and placed on file and those requiring further action by the City Council be acted upon during their proper sequence on the agenda.
3. To acknowledge the receipts for the period June 1-15 totaling $163,494.59 (a list is attached and made a part of these minutes).
4. To authorize the payments of the bills and payroll for the period June 1-15, totaling $412,850.00 (a list is attached and made a part of these minutes).

The motion carried with Councilor Buria absent.

It was moved by Roskoski that the following Misc. General income, account number 101-37-7100-023, 1^st Half HRA PILT 26 in the amount of $2,723.78 become part of the June 1, 2026, City Council meeting minutes. The motion failed due to lack of support.

Public Forum:

• No one spoke during the forum

The Mayor reported on the following:

• Great job to City Staff on continued work

City Administrator:

• Friday, June 19^th – City Offices closed in observance of Juneteenth
• Friday, July 3^rd – City offices closed in observance of 4^th of July

Director of Public Works:

• Repairing sewer lines on Slate Street deemed “not line-able” for slip-lining project
• Power dip on Friday evening – fault indicator – tree on power lines

Library Director/Special Events Coordinator:

• Summer reading program started June 8^th
• Wednesday, June 17th at 3:30pm – Creature Connections “The Reptile Experience”
• 4^th of July celebration – Saturday, July 4^th, parade starting at 9:00pm @ Locomotive Park

Fire Department:

• Forty-six first responder calls for the month

It was moved by Roskoski to approve the Fire Department report as presented. The motion failed due to lack of support.

City Engineer:

• Updates on projects being completed/currently worked on

City Attorney:

• Working with Planning & Zoning – blight/nuisance ordinances,

Liaison:

• Councilor Gustafson
• Toured MNTAC facility – thanks to US Steel for the tour and information
• West Virginia park equipment removed recently – old NLC playground installed

It was moved by Anderson and seconded by Stanaway to table Planning and Zoning Blight Issue which is to identify an employee as a blight inspection officer or add blight inspection duties to someone in Public Works and send the issue to Public Health and Safety Board, the Labor Management Committee, and Personnel Committee with recommendations being sent back to Planning and Zoning. The motion carried with Councilor Buria absent.  

Announcement:

• Merritt Days Planning Committee meeting, Thursday, June 25^th at Public Library @ 5:00pm
• Wednesday, June 24^th from 2:00p.m.-10:00p.m. – Kindness Fest at Community Center
• EDA – Broadband survey due at end of month for those interested

At 6:54p.m., it was moved by Roskoski and seconded by Stanaway the meeting be adjourned. The motion carried with Councilor Buria absent.
