MINUTES
MOUNTAIN IRON CITY COUNCIL
July 6, 2026
Mayor Anderson called the City Council meeting to order at 6:30p.m. with the following members present: Councilor Ed Roskoski, Bradley Gustafson, Alan Stanaway, Julie Buria, and Mayor Peggy Anderson. Also, present were: Tim Satrang, Director of Public Works; Amanda Inmon, Municipal Services Secretary; Al Johnson, City Engineer; and Sgt. Toma, Sheriff’s Department;
It was moved by Buria and seconded by Gustafson the consent agenda be approved as follows:
- Approve the minutes of June 15, 2026, regular meeting.
- That the communications be accepted and placed on file and those requiring further action by the City Council be acted upon during their proper sequence on the agenda.
- To acknowledge the receipts for the period June 16-30, totaling $257,200.32 (a list is attached and made a part of these minutes).
- To authorize the payments of the bills and payroll for the period June 16-30, totaling $608,648.94 (a list is attached and made a part of these minutes).
The motion carried unanimously.
The Mayor reported on the following:
- Great job to City Staff on street painting
Director of Public Works:
- Great job to City crew cleaning up several trees on power lines, debris throughout the city
- The City is unable to cut down trees that are on private property or on telephone lines
- Back side of West II Rivers Campground Disc Golf course closed due to tree damage
Big Thank you to all those that helped with the 4th of July parade and activities.
Sheriff’s Department:
- No formal report
It was moved by Roskoski and seconded by Stanaway to accept the recommendation of the Planning & Zoning Committee and approve the Conditional Use (CUP) for Joseph Schechinger for a Conditional Use permit and Variance Permit. The Conditional Use (CUP) permit is for the construction of a building over 900 sq. ft, and the variance is for a building over 15ft. high. The property is legally described as follows:

The motion carried unanimously.
It was moved by Stanaway and seconded by Gustafson to accept the recommendation of the Personnel Committee offering the following candidates a Laborer Position:
Ms. Bobbie Hendricks Mr. Michael Shaleen
The motion carried on roll call vote with Councilor Roskoski abstaining
Public Forum:
- Teresa Appelwick, Laurentian Chamber of Commerce
- Laurentian Main Streets – Main Street Business first meeting, Thursday, July 9th at 5:00pm at the Mountain Iron American Legion (meetings 2nd Thursday of each month)
- Discussions are focused on Main Street business needs – based on feedback from local businesses
City Engineer:
- Updates – bids received downtown slip-lining project and downtown alley off Mineral Avenue
Liaison:
- Councilor Gustafson
- Big thanks to all those who helped with the 4th of July parade and activities
- P&R – West Virginia playground removed, installation of “newer” equipment soon
It was moved by Gustafson and seconded by Buria that the Council hire the following as election judges, and to allow staff to hire additional judges as needed to fill required vacancies for the 2024 Election Season:

The motion carried unanimously.
Announcement:
- Merritt Days Planning Committee meeting, Thursday, July 8th at Public Library @ 5:00pm
At 6:50p.m., it was moved by Buria and seconded by Stanaway the meeting be adjourned. The motion carried.
