Mountain Iron Planning and Zoning Commission

October 24, 2022

 

Pro-term Assumed Chairman Jim Techar called the Planning & Zoning meeting to order at 6:30p.m. with the following members present: Jim Techar, Margaret Soyring, Al Stanaway, Lauren Buffetta, Mayor Peggy Anderson and Jerry Kujala, Zoning Administrator. Absent members: Steve Hunter and Barb Fivecoate.

It was moved by Stanaway and seconded by Soyring to approve the minutes of the September 26, 2022 meeting as presented. The motion carried with Hunter and Fivecoate absent.

Public Forum:

  • Ed Roskoski spoke on people not following the rules in different areas and city website being hard to use
  • Robert Lindberg, spoke regarding the letter he received, stating that he is using his camper during the building of a garage, however he does not stay in it overnight
  • Kevin Jacobson, stated that he uses his camper as a weekend retreat occasionally, but he does not live in it

Jerry Kujala, Zoning Administrator will work on changing the Ordinance language to allow campers for occasional use.

It was moved by Stanaway and seconded by Soyring to recommend to the City Council that the following be forwarded to the City Attorney for further action:

  • David Nordlund, 9602 Admiral Road, Mountain Iron, MN 55768 for constructing a large accessory building at this address without a permit, survey, or inspections. Mr. Norlund has been informed that he needs to apply for a building permit, provide a survey done which needs to be completed by a registered Land Surveyor, possibly apply for a Variance Permit due to possible front setback violation. Mr. Norlund has been issued numerous Administrative tickets and fines, he has not responded to any.
  • Ken Harmstrom, 9334 Old Highway 169, Mountain Iron, MN 55768 for failing to complete a permit for a fabric structure on his property. Mr. Harmstrom has not furnished required setbacks and documents needed for the permit.

The motion carried with Hunter and Fivecoate absent.

It was moved by Soyring and seconded by Stanaway to adjourn the meeting at 7:40 p.m. The motion carried with Hunter and Fivecoate absent.
