Mountain Iron Planning and Zoning Commission
December 9, 2019
Meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chairman Steve Skogman. Those Present: Steve Skogman, Steve Erickson, Margaret Soyring, Barb Fivecoate and Jerry Kujala, Zoning Administrator. Absent members; Jim Techar and Tim Johnston.
It was moved by Fivecoate, and seconded by Soyring to approve the minutes of the October 28, 2019 meeting. The motion carried with Techar and Johnston absent.
It was moved by Fivecoate and seconded by Erickson to close the regular meeting and open the Public Hearing at 6:35 p.m. The purpose of the public hearing is to consider a request made by the City of Mountain Iron, for a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for Utility Scale Solar Development in current Industrial property with no residential property in the vicinity.

There was no one to speak. Correspondence received from St. Louis County Commissioner Keith Nelson, St. Louis County Land and Minerals Department as well as the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Division of Land and Minerals regarding mineral rights and iron tailings on said property.
It was moved by Fivecoate and seconded by Soyring to close the public hearing and reconvene the regular meeting. The motion carried with Techar and Johnston absent.
It was moved by Fivecoate and seconded by Soyring to table the public hearing and send the information to the City Council. The motion carried with Techar and Johnston absent.
Zoning Administrator Kujala reported that he has received responses from several of the residents he sent letters to and will issue tickets to those which have not responded. Skogman stated that he heard from the property owner in Ann’s Acres that there is a structure that does not meet setbacks with a fire pit on City property, the owner wants to come to a P&Z meeting but could not be there because of a family illness.
Kujala also reported that part of the Woodland Estates development needs to be rezoned as it is now Rural Residential. He will set up a public hearing to take care of this rezoning.
There was a discussion about hunting regulations that may be outdated because of development in the City since the ordinance was written.
It was moved by Fivecoate and seconded by Erickson to adjourn the meeting at 7:25 p.m. The motion carried with Techar and Johnston absent.
