Mountain Iron Public Safety and Health Board Meeting Nov. 29, 2023

Alan Stanaway called the Public Safety and Health Meeting to order at 6:05; with the following members present: Mayor Peggy Anderson, Alan Stanaway, Mark Madden, Caitlyn Rinell & Shelby Peterson.

 

Absent members: Steven Hunter, Councilor Julia Buria, and the sheriff.

 

Public Forum:

-a concerned citizen voiced concern over lack of proper training in the Fire department/EMS department. He questioned if the city would be liable for lack of training?

 

-He also stated budgets for training should not be debated. Firefighter Chief Madden reported on the following:

-Firefighter/EMT calls have doubled over the year. The demand and calls have increased.

-Training has remained the same.

-Chief Madden requested raise for firefighters from $12 to $15.00/hour

-He also stated there is a current complaint against them, which calls for better tracking/ recording of training they provided and ceu’s.

-Chief Madden was requesting if the fire department can utilize the new secretary a couple hours a week to help with record keeping for the fire department.

-He also brought up potentially hiring a part time secretary 5-10/hours a month.

-Mayor Peggy Anderson mentioned discussing the need for a secretary with the personal committee.

 

Sheriffs business:

-passed on report as sheriff is not present at this meeting.

 

Old business:

-There is a home in Parkville that was burned; it is currently in counties hands-waiting to hear.

 

New Business:

Firefighter wage increase from $12-$15/hour

-Mayor Peggy Anderson asked who responded to a mutual call and Chief Madden went over general guidelines. EMT services have no mutual aid for first responders.

 

Motion Carried:

-Motion by Caitlyn Rinell to send to council and increase hourly firefighter wage from

$12-$15/jhour; Shelby Peterson second.

 

Open discussion:

-There have been calls to an area behind Raintree to address squatters and homeless living; the matter has been resolved.

 

-Chief Madden thanks everyone for the support.

 

Next agenda:

-Next scheduled meeting is December 27th at 6:00pm.
