MOUNTAIN IRON PUBLIC SAFETY & HEALTH BOARD

OCTOBER 25, 2017

 

 

Meeting was called to order by Chairman Al Stanaway at 6:30 p.m.

 

Those present: Al Stanaway, Steve Skogman, Margaret Soyring, Steve Hunter and Fire Chief Gerry Knapper.

Absent: Craig Wainio John Bachman, Brittany Chopp

 

Chief Knapper gave his report: Several grass fires were reported along highway 169, which turned out to be very small fires.

There has been very good participation from fire fighters with two still in training.

 

There were no reports from First Responders and Sheriff.

 

It was noted that if representatives cannot make the meeting they should send in reports to be submitted at the meeting.

 

The Blight Ordinance will be revisited in January and Stanaway asked members to review the present ordinance and note any changes that seem necessary to update.

 

Moved by Skogman and supported by Hunter that the Public Safety and Health Board recommend the City Council accept the bid for a compressor for the Fire Department from Alex Air Apparatus for $23,685.00. 95% of the purchase price will be funded through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant that was obtained through FEMA.

Motion made by Soyring and supported by Skogman to recommend to the City Council that city apply for the Fire Marshall Service Planning Grant.

Moved by Stanaway and supported by Hunter to recommend that the City Council accept the Mesabi Humane Society 2018-2020 Contract with the City of Mountain as presented.

Motion Carried with Wainio, Bachman, Chopp absent.

 

During open discussion it was brought up that some members are not receiving agendas for the meetings resulting in not having a quorum at some of the meetings. Soyring has not received notice of two meetings and Skogman one. Hopefully this will be resolved.

 

Motion by Skogman and supported by Soyring for the UAB review the policy (if one is in place) for private fire hydrant maintenance to make sure they will work in case of a fire.
