Mountain Iron Planning and Zoning Commission
September 9, 2019
Meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chairman Steve Skogman.
Those Present: Tim Johnston, Steve Skogman, Steve Erickson and Margaret Soyring. Jim Techar, Barb Fivecoate and Jerry Kujala absent.
It was moved by Soyring, supported by Johnston to approve the minutes of the August 26, 2019 meeting.
The motion carried with Techar and Fivecoate absent.
It was moved by Soyring, supported by Johnston to adjourn the regular meeting and open the public hearing at 6:35 p.m. The motion carried with Techar and Fivecoate absent.
The purpose of the public hearing is to consider a request made by Nick and Micah Beukema, for a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for a garage which exceeds 900 sq. ft. in area and a Variance Permit for a garage which exceeds 15 ft. in height. The property is legally described as follows:
Lot 0017, Block 001, Ann’s Acres of Mountain Iron
Address: 5408 North Court, Mountain Iron, MN 55768
Parcel Code: 175-0012-00170
Ed Roskoski, 5409 North Court, Mountain Iron, MN spoke in favor of the permit.
A letter was received from Julie Phaneuf-Hill, 5410 North Court in favor of the permit.
It was moved by Skogman, supported by Erickson to close the public hearing and re-open the regular meeting. The motion carried with Techar and Fivecoate absent.
It was moved by Soyring, supported by Johnston to adjourn the regular meeting and open the public hearing at 6:40 p.m. The motion carried with Techar and Fivecoate absent.
The purpose of the public hearing is to rezone certain Parcels within the City of Mountain Iron.
Rezone the following from Commercial to Multi-Family 2 (Rock Ridge Development.

Joe Seifert, Miller Architect and Builders was present representing the Development Company wanting to build an Apartment Complex in the Rock Ridge Development.
It was moved by Johnston, supported by Erickson to adjourn the public hearing and re-open the regular meeting. The motion carried with Techar and Fivecoate absent.
It was moved by Soyring, supported by Johnston to recommend the City Council approve the conditional use permit and variance to Nick and Micah Beukema to build a garage. The motion carried with Techar and Fivecoate absent.
It was moved by Soyring, supported by Erickson to recommend the City Council approve the rezoning of the lots in Rock Ridge Development from Commercial to Multi-Family 2 as described. The motion carried with Techar and Fivecoate absent.
It was moved by Johnston, supported by Erickson to adjourn the meeting at 7:09 p.m. The motion carried with Techar and Fivecoate absent.
