Mountain Iron Planning and Zoning Commission

Chairperson Jim Techar called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. with the following members present:  Margaret Soyring, Al Stanaway, Steve Giorgi, Lauren Buffetta, Barb Fivecoate, Zoning Administrator Jerry Kujala and Mayor Peggy Anderson.

Moved by Stanaway, supported by Giorgi to accept the consent agenda and approve the minutes of the June 28, 2025 meeting. Motion carried. Techar and Fivecoate absent.

Moved by Giorgi, supported by Soyring to  recommend the following changes to Ordinance 04-25 Regulation Cannabis Businesses as pertain to Planning Zoning:

Ed Roskoski passed out a diagram of the j turn on Highway 169 and Hwy 103 and Nichols Dr.

Moved by Al, supported by Buffetta for Jerry to issue tickets for illegal signs. Motion Carried.

There was been no correspondence from Attorney Lindsay on the ongoing issues that were turned over to him.

Moved by Giorgi, supported by Soyring to recess the regular meeting and open the public hearing at 6:05p.m. Motion Carried.

The purpose of the public Hearing is to consider a request made by Thomas Schur, for a Conditional Use Permit (CUP). The Conditional Use is for the installation of a garage over 900 sq. ft. The property is legally described as follows:

LEGAL DESCRIPTION: Plat Name: MERRITTS 1st ADDITION TO MOUNTAIN IRON; Section:-; Township:-; Range:-; Lot: 0002; Block: 003; Description: LOT: 0002 BLOCK: 003

Address: 5724 Mineral Avenue, Mountain Iron, MN 55768

There was no correspondence. Ed Roskoski speaking for his son John Roskoski said there were no objections.

Moved by Giorgi, supported by Fivecoate to adjourn the Public Hearing and resume the regular meeting. Motion Carried.

Moved by Giorgi, supported by Fivecoate to Recommend that the City Council approve the Conditional Use Permit for Thomas Schur. Motion Carried.

Moved by Giorgi, supported by Soyrng that Chairman Techar send an email to Mr. Lindsay requesting all correspondence on the ongoing issued that were turned over to him. Motion Carried

Moved by Buffetta, supported by Buffetta to adjourn at 6:43 p.m. Motion carried.

Moved by Stanaway, supported by Giorgi to adjourn at 7:10 p.m. Motion Carried.
