PUBLIC SAFETY & HEALTH BOARD MINUTES

JUNE 27, 2018

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Al Stanaway. Members present were Steve Skogman, Margaret Soyring and Margaret Ratai. Also present was Fire Chief Jerry Knapper, Sgt. John Bachman and Fire Safety Officer Justin Blazewicz. Steve Hunter and Craig Wainio were absent.

Skogman moved and Soyring supported to approve the minutes of the May 30, 2017 meeting. Motion carried.

First responders reported the progress on the AED situation. Quotes are still coming in and hopes to have solid figures in July.

Fire Chief Knapper reported that ten fire fighters trained in Gilbert in the burn trailer. He and Casey Kitner attended house burning training in Hill City. The city AED inventory has been done. However, there are now two bucket trucks and only one has an AED so another one will have to be added to the list.

The members present recommend that all AED’s should be the same brand and model as the Virginia Fire Department so used supplies can be replaced by them.

Fire Safety Officer Justin Blazewicz presented The Firefighter Performance Review and Air Pack Inspector Policy.

A motion was made by Skogman and supported by Ratai the recommendation to the City Council that the Firefighter Performance Review with changes in the first paragraph be sent to the City Attorney for approval.

Motion carried.

It was recommended that the revised Air Pack Inspector Policy become a procedure.

Chief Knapper said the fire department will be participating in the Mt. Iron and Gilbert 4th of July parades.

Motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:05 p.m. by Steve, seconded by Soyring. Motion carried.
