Mountain Iron Planning and Zoning Commission

June 10, 2019

 

Meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chairman Steve Skogman.

 

Present members: Jim Techar, Tim Johnston, Steve Skogman, Steve Erickson, Margaret Soyring, and Jerry Kujala, Planning and Zoning Administrator. Absent members: Barb Fivecoate.

 

Moved by Techar, supported by Johnston to approve the minutes from the May 28, 2019 meeting. Motion carried with Fivecoate absent.

 

Moved by Soyring, supported by Erickson to recess the regular meeting and open the Variance Hearing. Motion carried with Fivecoate absent.

 

The Planning and Zoning Commission of the City of Mountain Iron will hold a public hearing on Monday June 10, 2019 at 6:35 p.m. in the Mountain Iron Room of the Mountain Iron Community Center.

 

The purpose of the public hearing is to consider a request made by Kyle McKenna, for a Variance Permit to construct a 10 x 12 shed at the below referenced location. The proposed construction does not meet the side yard setback of 5 feet as specified by City Zoning Ordinance. The property is legally described as follows:

 

            Lot 0007, Block 005, Merritt’s 1st Addition to Mountain Iron

 

            Address: 5699 Mineral Avenue, Mountain Iron, MN 55768

 

            Parcel Code: 175-0020-00660

 

The public can present its opinions at the public hearing or by letter addressed to the Zoning Administrator, City of Mountain Iron, City Hall, 8586 Enterprise Drive South, Mountain Iron, MN 55768

 

No one spoke at the public hearing.

 

Moved by Techar, supported by Johnston to close the public hearing and resume the regular meeting. Motion carried with Fivecoate absent.

 

Moved by Soyring, supported by Johnston to recommend to the city council to approve the Variance Permit for Kyle McKenna. Motion carried with Fivecoate absent.

 

Kujala reported that he has not received a response from the property owner in Unity II about the hard surface driveway. He also reported he has not received any inquiries into zoning for an apartment complex.

 

Motion to adjourn at 7:12 p.m. by Johnston, supported by Soyring. Motion carried with Fivecoate absent.
