Mountain Iron Planning and Zoning Commission
June 9, 2025
Chairperson Jim Techar called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. with the following members present: Margaret Soyring, Al Stanaway, Mayor Peggy Anderson and Jerry Kujala, Zoning Administrator and City Attorney Bryan Lindsay. Steve Giorgi arrived at 6:15, Barb Fivecoate arrived at 6:28 and Lauren Buffetta arrived at 6:28.
Moved by Stanaway, supported by Soyring to accept the consent agenda and approve the minutes of the May 12, 2025 meeting. Motion carried. Giorgi, Fivecoate and Buffetta absent.
Moved by Soyring , supported by Stanaway to recess the regular meeting and open the public hearings. Motion carried. Giorgi, Fivecoate and Buffetta absent.
Glen Dall Public Hearing (see attached)
Motion to close public hearing and open public hearing for Ryan Pontinen (see attached)
Moved by Soyring, supported by Stanaway to close the Public Hearing and resume the regular meeting.
Moved by Stanaway, supported by Soyring to recommend to the City Council to approve the CUP for Glen Dahl for three shipping containers to be placed on his property with the stipulation they be painted in an earth tone color. Aye: Soyring, Techar, Stanaway, Buffetta, Anderson. Naye Giorgi. Motion Carried. Absent Fivecoate and Buffetta.
Moved by Giorgi, supported by Stanaway to recommend the City Council approve a CUP for a garage over 900 aq. Ft. and a Variance for over 15 ft. height. Motion carried. Fivecoate and Buffetta Absent.
Bryan Lindsay, City Attorney updated the commission on several pending litigations for city code violations. The commission will be kept updated on these matters by email in the future.
There was discussion on the Regulation Cannabis Ordinance. Since not all members were provided with a copy of the ordinance there was a motion by Stanaway, supported by Fivecoate to table the matter until the next meeting. Motion Carried. Motion Carried
Moved by Fivecoate, supported by Giorgi to adjourn at 7:40 p.m. Motion Carried.
