Mountain Iron Planning and Zoning Commission
May 28, 2019
Meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chairman Steve Skogman.
Those Present: Jim Techar, Tim Johnston, Steve Skogman, Steve Erickson, Barb Fivecoate, Margaret Soyring, and Jerry Kujala, Planning and Zoning Administrator.
Moved by Fivecoate, supported by Soyring to approve the minutes from the May 13, 2019 meeting. Motion carried.
Moved by Fivecoate, supported by Techar to recess the regular meeting and open the Variance Hearing. Motion carried.
The Planning and Zoning Commission of the City of Mountain Iron will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 6:35 p.m. in the Mountain Iron Room of the Mountain Iron Community Center.
The purpose of the public hearing is to consider a request made by Richard Erickson, for a Variance Permit to construct a carport at the below referenced location. The proposed construction does not meet the side yard setback of 5 feet as specified by City Zoning Ordinance. The property is legally described as follows:
Lot 0013, Block 001, Merritt’s 1st Addition to Mountain Iron

The public can present its opinions at the public hearing or by letter addressed to the Zoning Administrator, City of Mountain Iron, City Hall, 8586 Enterprise Drive South, Mountain Iron, MN 55768
No one spoke at the public hearing.
Moved by Fivecoate, supported by Erickson to close the public hearing and resume the regular meeting. Motion carried.
Moved by Soyring, supported by Johnston to recommend to the City Council to approve the Variance Permit for Richard Erickson. Steve Erickson voiced his concern about the distance between the garage and the carport. Motion carried on roll call vote 5 to 1. (No: Erickson; Yes: Techar, Johnston, Skogman, Fivecoate, and Soyring)
Kujala reported that a letter has been sent to an individual in Unity Addition II that has not paved their driveway. He also reported he will research the zoning of property where an apartment complex may be constructed.
Motion to adjourn at 7:25 p.m. by Fivecoate, supported by Techar. Motion carried.
