Public Safety & Health Board Meeting March, 25th, 2026 @ 6pm
The meeting was called to order at 6pm by Chair Al Stanaway.
Roll call: present were Chair Al Stanaway, Mayor Peggy Anderson, Vice ChairMargaret Soyring, Lisa Richards, Sue Osell, Candice Berg and Secretary Mary Luomanen
Absent: Sgt Grant Torma and Fire Chief Mark Madden
Motion by Lisa to approve the consent agenda from the last meeting; supported by Margaret and voted to approved by all members.
Public Forum: Ed Roskoski brought up some 3rd party information about a burning incident West of the intersection of 101 by the railroad tracks. Due to lack of firsthand information, there was no discussion.
Community and Staff Reports: No report from first responders or sheriff’s office at this meeting. Al, Margaret and Lisa will talk with Mark to have a representative come in the event he cannot attend next meeting.
Old Business: Al talked to Anna at the library regarding Safety Town-a week long safety program for kids. Anna knows about the program and has access to the materials. Anna is excited to see if she can get it set up for this summer. Sue is going to follow up with Anna before the next meeting.
New Business: Planning and Zoning Board meeting discussed updating RFPs aon getting all information needed from all boards, committees and council-to make comprehensive plans.
Open Discussion: Al-Mesabi Fit is looking into putting up a dome on their property. They need a variance on some aspects, height of the structure is a topic, 73’. They received a grant specifically for this. They have had 2 meetings set up with the City to discuss what they need and they did not appear at either one. There will need to be a public forum on this.
Announcements: The next Public Safety & Health Board meeting will be April 22, 2026 at 6pm. Then there will be a break unless a meeting is needed.
