Mountain Iron Planning and Zoning Commission

August 26, 2019

Meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chairman Steve Skogman.

Those Present: Jim Techar, Tim Johnston, Steve Skogman, Steve Erickson, Margaret Soyring, Barb Fivecoate and Jerry Kujala, Planning and Zoning Administrator.

Moved by Fivecoate, supported by Techar to approve the minutes of the August 12, 2019 meeting. Motion carried.  

Jerry Kujala reported that shipping containers are appearing on properties without applying for a permit.

Moved by Fivecoate, supported by Techar to have Kujala write the language for a conditional use permit for shipping containers in residential and commercial zones. Motion carried.

Moved by Skogman and supported by Johnston to request the City Council to place a moratorium on storage containers until a public hearing can be held to include them in the City Ordinance. Motion carried.

Moved by Soyring, supported by Fivecoate to set September 23, 2019 for a public hearing to add all size shipping containers to be used as accessory buildings as a conditional use in residential and commercial zones. Motion carried.

Moved by Fivecoate, supported by Skogman to adjourn the meeting at 7:00 p.m. Motion carried with Erickson absent.
