Mountain Iron Planning and Zoning Commission
January 8, 2024
Chairperson Jim Techar called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with the following members present: Margaret Soyring, Lauren Buffetta, Barb Fivecoate, Steve Hunter, Al Stanaway, Mayor Peggy Anderson and Jerry Kujala, Zoning Administrator.
It was moved by Hunter and seconded by Buffetta to accept the Consent Agenda and minutes of the December 11, 2023, meeting. The motion carried.
- During the public forum Ed Roskoski reported that he had checked out the storage units at Walmart and found that they had been moved and replaced as shipments were received. However, he stated that there is one in the back that has a sign on it Turn Off Alarm before entering.
It was moved by Anderson and seconded by Hunter to close the regular meeting and open the public hearing. The motion carried.
The purpose of the public hearing is to consider a request made by Sandvik for a Conditional Use
(CUP) Permit. The CUP is the use of a shipping container to be used as an accessory structure. The property is legally described as follows:

It was moved by Fivecoate and seconded by Stanaway to suspend the public hearing until more information is obtained and resume the regular meeting. The motion carried.
Zoning Administrator:
- Jerry Kujala reported that he is retiring from the Zoning Administrator position
- He also reported that there has been an audit by the Minnesota Department of Labor following a complaint, results are not known yet
The pending case against Ordinance violations were discussed with Councilor Joe Prebeg. He requested Mr. Kujala send a list of these to be put on the next Council meeting agenda.
At 7:32p.m., it was moved by Hunter and seconded by Fivecoate that the meeting be adjourned. The motion carried.
